Design Wall Monday-March 12, 2012

I got a bit more of the feathering done. It's a good thing this is a practice quilt, because the thread is pulling to the back every once in a while and making loops. I'm not sewing fast, so it's something else. I guess I may have to take my machine in at some point to get it serviced. Of course, if I do it will be the first time every in 23 years.

The front looks pretty good, especially because the fabric is so busy you don't see the mistakes. Because of the looping I'm kind of frustrated, so it's taking me a long time. I keep walking away. If I could figure out what is wrong and just not do that, I wouldn't be as frustrated, but that's what practice is for.

I also did just a little dyeing this weekend: onsies, socks and a bath blanket. They were colors I had lying around (premixed) so thought I'd use them. Not typical baby colors but I like them.

Your feathers look great. Sorry to hear about the loops on the back. Hope some one leaves a great tip, I have the same issue, I'll be watching :)

Love your dying. These are my favorite baby colors: bright!

The things you've dyed are certainly bright. Now I need a nudge to get doing on some dyeing myself!

Wow, that adds a bit of color to the spring woods! Awesome, love them.

Mary, I always have to adjust my tension when quilting. Did you try just tightening your top tension? Or loosening your bobbin tension? It really is different in free motion. I used to always be afraid to mess with the bobbin tension, but after the long-arm, it is no big deal. I still do a little bit of quilting on the bernina, and just adjust that tension any way it needs.

That FMQ can be so frustrating! Love the dye job makes me want to grab those things right off your line.

I'd pick those colors over traditional baby pastels any day!

Ooh your feathers are pretty - but yes, how frustrating, a big reason I don't do FM quilting. I don't have the patience for the problems!

Love it!! The dyed items look great. Wish I had a solution for your tension - chocolate?

I think that must be happening because of a sewing machine glitch. It's not user error, that's for sure! I think a tune up is in order.
Your feathers look fantastic!

At least you are attempting feathers--something I haven't yet! Hope the issues smooth out as you continue.

I love your dye lot in the woods :)

With my LA when I have sporatic looping on the back means there is a thread or bit of lint somewhere it shouldn't be. Maybe a good vacuuming of what you can reach might help. Just thoughts.
Hugs!!!!

Your dying is gorgeous! I came over from sew many ways but not by the link tool... you pasted something else in the link, I just found you down in the comments and thought I'd let you know!
Your feathers look great, sorry you had trouble. I only do straight quilting these days...
