Four Patch Baby Quilt

Well it's done. I got all the quilting done today while I was listening to an audio book. It's not fancy, but it keeps the layers together, and it's early! The shower isn't until the 7th of next month, so I even have time to wrap it. I think the last one just went in a box and I called it good. Oh, wait, I think it was in a plastic bag so it wouldn't get wet!

I was thinking of making a bag to go with it--I still have some of the multi-colored fabric and it might be fun. I'll have to see how inspired I am before I have to get it in the mail.

Still working

Lest you think that I have stopped working, here is proof that I am still quilting. This is one of the blocks from the baby 4-patch I am working on. I have one third of the blocks quilted with different "stuff". Each one will be different, and sort of practice in quilting different designs.

I don't know what I am going to do in the sashing yet. Probably some kind of viney thing, maybe with flowers or leaves. This needs to be to the shower by 3 February, and it has to be sent via mail, so I better get it in gear and get it done. I have one of the quilt tops for a QOV on the design wall at the moment. It's the greek keys top--I have to figure out what to do for the outer border. I just did some fooling around with the picture in paint, and I think a simple border of the dark blue background fabric would work fine.

A Mystery/Puzzle for me

Look what I unearthed (well actually un-boxed). Got 4 more boxes from under the house. This was one of them. There was some other fabric in the box, but this is the mystery. I have the book, I have my directions, but there are cryptic notes, and diagrams that don't match the book. I have to go back in time--way back, to try to figure out what the heck I was thinking!

I wonder if it will ever get done? I think I was going to make a king size quilt, but I don't know if I want this on my bed. My room is now in blues and greens--I don't think this would go too well. Maybe I need to bring it into the bedroom in the light and see what it looks like. It might be like a field of flowers--who knows.

2 More for Charity-not quilts

Not quilts, but something to keep them warm--and they're fuzzy too. A simple finish, large enough for teens. I made these with two yards of fleece, so they'll be big enough to cuddle in--all wrapped up. I have fabric for two more.

Our guild provides quilts for Safe Passage--and one of the members spoke passionately about the need, and our responsibility to provide for others--so I am.

Mystery and Charity

The title sounds a little like I'm listing the 7 virtues or something. Actually--I went ahead and did the first part of the mystery and cut the fabric as stated. I decided if I didn't like the finished quilt, surely someone would.

The second is that I've finished a charity quilt. I've had the fabric for over a year--it got stuck away in my stuff and only recently resurfaced. I didn't use batting, instead I used fleece. This was a fleece remnant I had from a spud suit I made for my hubby about 5 years ago. I quilted it using the sine wave stitch. That's the one that curves back and forth. I like it when I don't think I'm going to be able to stitch a straight line. It looks OK when it's crooked :^)

I also ended up quilting from the fleece side. It actually went remarkably well. The quilt is done and I feel virtuous!

We had a presentation on making fabric bowls at our guild meeting on Thursday, and that has inspired me. I don't know if I'll actually make one, but I found these and fell in love. I think I can figure out how to make them, because I found this and that 'splained it (as Ricky would say) good enough for me. I have an idea of purple mountains majesty--let's see if I can pull it off.

Here's a picture of the bowl from the Hilde Morin website. I borrowed the picture because I think it is remarkable--and I love it.

Mystery Quilt Fabrics

I've been persuaded to join in on the mystery quilt that's the challenge at my quilt guild this year (I think it's a year). Here are the fabrics I've chosen. They're all from my stash. I bought a number of them for a quilt I was making for Emily and decided they were too dark. I think they'll look OK.

The bottom right one is the focus fabric, the top right one is the binding fabric, and the two others on the right are the coordinates. The left fabric is the background. The directions said that a lot of background shows through, so make it interesting. Also said that it shouldn't be a directional fabric--it is, sort of, but I think it will do. We'll see.

I don't like mystery quilts!

I have also passed my 100th blog post and 1 year of blogging tomorrow. I have the excuse that I was away from home so didn't notice the 100th post. The tradition seems to be a giveaway--I'll have to figure what to do with that, and let you know as soon as I figure it out.

Happy New Year!
