Butterfly Blooms

The top is all sewed together. I have to add the borders, but I've got this together. Now I have to figure out the borders.

Michele asked if I designed this pattern myself, I did not. I bought it at a store in Paradise California. It is printed by a company called "Cozy Quilt Designs" and the name is Butterfly Blooms. It's a strip club pattern. The website is cozydesigns.com and has a copyright of 2006.

Thanks for all the positive comments about the top. I love the colors as well, and will have the borders done by this weekend!

Purchases

Did I need these...no; well, maybe the bulb, but certainly not the other items. I unplugged my Ott Lite and when I plugged it back in it didn't work. So we tried to figure out how to take the bulb out to see if we could see anything (kind of like opening the hood of the car when it doesn't work...I look and know nothing) and the bulb broke in taking it out. I have a gooseneck table top craft Ott Lite, and I tell you, I don't know how to get it out easily. If you have one, and know, could you please tell me.

Anyway, I went in to Joann's with a 40% off coupon, and 10% off the total sale and found the light bulbs on sale for 50% off. I decided because I had the coupon, I should look at books (they often aren't on sale) and found the template set instead. Looking at the template set, it said to use a 28mm cutting blade--I have the small rotary cutter, but the blade is bad, so I had to buy that too. I stopped there though, so I don't feel too bad.

Here is the ottlite I have
If you know how to remove a bulb from this type of lamp I would love to know.

What's on My Design Wall

Judy L. is starting a "What's on Your Design Wall" Monday. Post on Monday what you have on the wall, and what you want to accomplish on it by the next Monday. This is what I have. I was working on sewing the blocks together, pulled off two rows, set them neatly on my cutting table in the correct order, ready to sew, got distracted and sewed them wrong. Just the pairs, so I'm un-sewing right now. By next Monday I hope to have the blocks sewn together, and maybe the borders on, but for sure the blocks all together. The top rows of blocks are all together in this pictures.

Still Here

It's the last couple weeks of school, and I just don't have any focus...not at work and not at home. I think I may have Spring Fever. Yesterday it was 68 degrees at 10PM. That may not sound like much, but here it was quite balmy. So, my mind is in summer mode. I'll buckle down and get something done soon, I know I will.

Butterfly Blooms All the Blocks

Here are all of the blocks. This is one happy quilt! These are just on the design wall, not yet sewn together. I still need to add a thin black border, then another border from one of the colors (I haven't decided yet which color to use) and then another larger border. I should be able to get this one done in the next couple of days.

Butterfly Blooms and a New Book

Here are 35 blocks. I don't know if I want to make the other 7 blocks. I still need to move some of the blocks around before I sew them together. There is supposed to be a thin black border around the whole set of blocks, then a color, then a larger black border.

I bought Dream Landscapes by Rose Hughes. I found it mentioned in two different places while I was surfing, and it looked fun. I found one on ebay, and it was only $9.95 instead of $26.95. With shipping it was half the cost of the list price. I think it's going to be a fun book.

More Butterfly Blooms Blocks

Here are some more of the blocks. I am going to make at least 5 more. The top is supposed to have 42 blocks, but I don't know if I am going to make that many.

I have been using the Essential thread from Connecting Threads. I cleaned the bobbin area after about 3 bobbins of thread. This thread works very well, and has far less lint than Aurafil and it is much less expensive. I bought cone thread (5000 yards) for only $7.99. Quite a deal, and it works very well.

More BB and Down Under Quilts

A couple more blocks. I had a bit of adventure this morning...sewed my finger. Ewwww! First time I've done that. I'm a little twitchy when my fingers get close to the needle now, but I'm fine. I've had a tetanus shot it the last couple of years, so I'm good there.

Yesterday I found a link to Down Under quilts. There is a free online subscription, and I signed up for it. I spent a number of hours yesterday looking through the back issues and printing patterns for quilts I might make. Here are some of the quilts I loved.

Butterfly Blooms...again

Here are some more blocks. I have a question. Do I need to change the red set. When I look at it as a picture it doesn't seem as obviously different, but it is kind of blah. Do you think it looks too much like one fabric?

Your opinions would be appreciated.

Some Blooms and Butterflies

Got some done. I'm really liking these. It's taking longer than I anticipated, because I have to choose which colors I want together, and I have to pick out the correct strips for each one, but I'm enjoying it immensely.

If anyone is a Star Trek fan, I just saw the movie and I recommend it to you. It was fun.

A Bit More

More work done. All of the pieces are ready to be put together...finally! I should have some blocks done by the end of the day. More pictures then.

More Work

A bit more work done. This one takes a bit of time. Four of the strips need to have triangles on the ends. Then I decided that I would use the small triangles for something instead of throwing them away.

Next Up, Butterfly Blooms

I need to find a long zipper for the duvet cover, so until I do, I am going to work on another WIP. This is a pattern and set of strips I bought 3 years ago (or maybe 2) when I was camping with my family outside of Fresno in the mountains. I think it was when we were at Shaver Lake. We went to the Paradise Quilt shop and I found this pattern--Joe liked the colors, so I bought it. I cut the black strips last year at a friends house, and made the first block. I just cut all the batik strips to length, and am working on cutting the black strips. Here is one of the finished blocks.

Hydrangea 4-patch...DONE!

Yay! I think this is one of the quickest finishes I've had in a while. Especially because I didn't have a deadline on it. Now I have a baby quilt ready to go when the need arises! Yippee!!

What to do next? I have a bunch of tops that can be quilted, but I think I'm going to make up the duvet cover for our bed. I only have a bit of work on that one and it will be ready...

Here is a partial picture. It's rainy and grey today, so I had to clip it in my sewing room and my hubby took one corner. There is one more partial row below what you can see. The top is 93x93 and now I have to piece the back, then figure out the closure system I want to use.
