My honey loves Aloha shirts and we're going to Hawaii on Friday so I'm going to try to make him a couple more. The top three fabrics in the top pic I just picked up in California for $2.98 per yard. It's a great fabric store in Anaheim called L & M. They have a sister store in Fountain Valley called Jenny's. Don't go in unless you have lots and lots of time. The fabrics in the front of the store are regular priced, those in the back are discounted. If you really feel like a hunter, go through the flat fold stacks. There are shelves and shelves and shelves of it.
I had one shirt already cut out--the second pic, so am doing that one first. I can usually make one of these in about 1 1/2 hours--so off I go. Don't think there will be much quilting this week!

I'm at a conference in California this week--so won't be doing any quilting. I have done some shopping (bad me) but the fabric was only $3 per yard--so that's good. I have a excuse for the fabric I bought--it's for clothing--so that doesn't count, right? I am going to the Sister's quilt show with my sister in July so I bought some fabric specifically for the class I am taking--so yet another excuse.

Well, all the blocks are done, and I like it much better than I thought I would. The inspiration picture had a black and white piano keys border--but I think I might use more of the fabric used in the quilt. I'm going to see about a mock-up to see if I like it--then I can also try the piano keys. If I do a mock-up I'll post it, too to see what it looks like. I think I'll try the dark and white (not black, but the dark blue) and then also with the colors from the quilt.
It's odd how sometimes I just don't like a quilt I'm making, but then if I leave it a while, it kind of grows on me. This one has grown some!

Well, here is the latest. I actually started this at least a year ago. I made two blocks and then stopped--I think because it was a pain to make them. I just finished the QOV top and saw these and decided to work on them some. I don't know if I like it or not. The colors aren't exactly "happy" but I like it more than I did when I just had a couple of blocks. The colors are pretty true here--all batiks and the darker color is a deep blue.
I'll make some more and see what I think. They are 15" blocks and I was going to have 4 across and 5 down, but that would be too big for a lap quilt--so I'm going with 3 by 4 and an added border.
Well, this top is done. I'm going to see if the longarmer who quilted the last Irish Chain QOV I did is willing to quilt this one as well. I've sent an email and am waiting now for a reply. If she can't then I'll have to figure out what to do with it. I've a couple of motifs that might work for quilting in the squares (they're 6") but I'm just not sure. I'll have to think on it. I don't have backing yet, I may just piece together the left over fabric from this top and add in some more I had in my stash.
Oh--this was not a stash quilt either--I don't tend toward red, white and blue (so bought 6 yards of fabric for this) but it was a specific request, so it was worth it to me.
